The Flight Plan

On June 7th, 2010 we had all of our bags packed and were ready to take our trip over to the next town and hospital to have our baby. We were both very nervous, but also excited to welcome our newest edition. We had to check into the hospital around midnight, so we left early to make a stop at Walmart for a few last things. It was quite sereal to wander around the mart knowing that in a few short hours we would have a baby. We checked in at midnight, but finishing all the paper work and getting Camille hooked up to tubes and gizmos took forever. Around 1:30 a.m. they wheeled in a bed for Adam and told us both to go to sleep (Note: Adam is pretty tall, and the bed was not. Adam's feet hung off the bottom and almost touched the floor). Sleeping did not come easy as they left the baby's heart monitor volume up, so all night long we heard his heart beating loudly. They also had an alarm that would go off every thirty minutes to make sure Camille's IV was still flowing. Needless to say, we got about 2 hours of sleep. Around 3:30 a.m. they started "the pit," and other fluids. Camille wasn't super comfortable considering contractions were coming and going, but she did pretty well. Around 7:00a.m. they did the epidural...NOT FUN. They had to poke Camille a bunch of times in the back with a giant needle...with Adam watching...Adam was not a fan. Camille said it was pretty painful, but well worth it in the end. Finally at 9:00a.m. the doctor broke Camille's water and the waiting was on...
Camille progressed fairly slowly at first. When her water was broken she was only at 2 and 80% effaced. The doctors and nurses kept telling us that the delivery most likely wouldn't happen until about 8 or 9 that night. So, Adam kicked back and started reading a book (they took away his worthless bed by this point). At noon Adam was still reading his book and Camille kept saying she was feeling a lot of pressure, but assumed that she was just starting to feel the contractions. At about the same time our doctor came and said she wanted to check and see if she had made any more progress. Much to her surprise, Camille was ready to go. The doctor yelled to Adam to put his book down and get over to her leg to hold it up because the baby is coming NOW!! Note: Adam calmly walked over and whispered supportive words...NOT...he was a wreck, but tried to be strong for Camille. Camille pushed from about ten after noon until 1:23 p.m. when out came our boy. He was super precious!! He weighed 7 lbs 3ozs. and was 20 inches long with the heart of lion!! Ok, made the last part up, but with all the crying he has been doing the last few days, it is more like the tears of big BABY!!! At least that is what Adam said...Adam really wants a good night sleep.
Camille did such a good job with the entire process. She was quite the trooper!! Brave and courageous throughout. Adam was cowering in the corner, but somehow made it out of the fetal position for this picture. We are seriously the happiest (sleep deprived) parents.

Adam tried to hand pick the perfect outfit for him to go home in. Adam got him a little shirt that said, "Future Quarterback" with a blue jumpsuit. We thought it was perfect...until we put it on him. It was huge. Grady looked more like Gangster Grady with baggy pants. All he was missing was some bling. Note: Adam also made sure he had a BYU hat to wear home.

Now that we have been home for a week we have started to adjust to our lives being turned upside down. Thanks to help from Grandparents (both Camille's and Adam's parents have been AMAZING!! THANKS!!) Grady has become so adjusted that he is even starting to look like Yoda. He tells his mother every night, "Feed me, you will!!"

Camille and Adam have accepted the fact that we will most likely not be seen as much on this blog. How can we when we have a little boy that looks as good as this dude.
